Imagine making a film where your boss is Dustin Hoffman, your Girlfriend is Scarlett Johansson, your Ex-wife is Sofia Vergara and your best mate is John Leguizamo. That is exactly what Jon Favreau did back in 2014 with the film Chef. If you haven’t watched this film seriously go and watch it. I am sure it is on Amazon Prime or Netflix. There are plenty of things to try from this film including the cubanas but first is a simple dish that literally anyone can make. During the film while flirting with Scarlett Johansson, Jon Favreau’s character Carl Casper creates a dish call pasta Aglio E Olio and trust me your other half will make the same face as Scar Jo when they eat it.
First to the recipe, we are going to the Babish book that produced the Big Kahuna burger, Say what I dare you. Babish is a massive fan of Jon and his book even has a foreword from the man himself. He covers almost all of the recipes from Chef and I plan to have a bash at all of them at some point. This dish is even inspired one of Babish’s tattoos. So for 6 very simple ingredients it has a lot riding on it.
Now for those 6 ingredients, 8 cloves of garlic, sliced thinly. Chilli flakes, the heat is up to you. Parsley diced, Extra virgin olive oil, Pasta, as much as you need and lemon. That’s it. Cook the pasta in boiling salted water. Warm the oil and place the garlic in the oil. Cook until golden brown. Once they go golden place the chilli’s in allowing them to cook slightly. Once they have mixed add the pasta and some of the pasta water into the mix, let it cook for a few moments add the lemon and parsley and stir vigorously then serve. Yeah it is that simple. You cannot get it wrong.
This is seriously quick, like get home late and promised your other half dinner quick. Emily liked it and she did pull the Scar Jo face while eating it. Don’t get me wrong you aren’t going to win any Michelin stars and don’t go out and buy expensive ingredients. Just keep it in your arsenal as a little treat for your partner.
Go watch Chef, seriously
